Aging homes, particularly those owned by individuals who are unable to maintain their properties due to physical, financial or other hardships, are common calls received by the Code Enforcement division. The Westerville Helps program aims to address problems to the exterior of homes before reaching enforcement processes.
Eligible property owners would be able to receive reimbursement of renovation expenses up to 50% of a $10,000 exterior home remodeling project (maximum reimbursement is $5,000). Qualifying reimbursements include windows, doors, porch and/or patio remodeling and construction, siding, landscaping, lighting, handicap ramps and exterior painting.
Homeowners wishing to apply for reimbursement must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Homes must be single-family owner occupied
- All applicable taxes must be paid, current or in good standing
- Owners must agree to remain in the home for five additional years
- Maximum household income cannot exceed the Westerville median household income
