WFD responds to more than 9,000 emergency runs a year and serves 50,000 Westerville and Blendon Township residents. The Division has three stations and is responsible for a variety of emergencies, including fire, EMS, auto/heavy vehicle extrication, confined-space rescue, rope rescue- low and high angle, machinery/elevator extraction and water rescues, and treats minor and critical injuries. WFD belongs to the Central Ohio Strike Team, which consists of on-duty crews that respond to natural disasters and special resource requests.
The Division's firefighters and paramedics work collaboratively with other area health and safety agencies to ensure professional response teams are expertly trained to provide the most advanced care to individuals in a variety of safety situations. WFD strives to be fair, honest and ethical and trains daily to ensure all personnel are prepared to respond to emergencies. The Division pledges to treat everyone it serves with the utmost respect and dignity.

- Take the Firefighter FireTEAM written exam.
- Visit the National Testing Network website to register and select the City of Westerville to receive your scores.
- Schedule and complete the Firefighter Mile and first interview.
- Interview with WFD Chiefs.
- Pass background check.
- Pass a drug screen, physical and psychological exams.
