Information Systems
The primary function of Information Systems is to lead and assist City departments in the use of information technology as a tool to pursue their respective business objectives. This is accomplished by providing reliable, secure and efficient access to the City’s information systems. Like other local governments and business, the City relies heavily on its computer systems to provide services to the public. The Information Systems department oversees the City's computing environment by providing the protection and control of information, electronic assets and resources. These services are deployed through focus on forward- looking methodology; using best practices and performance measurement techniques, delivering centralized and integrated services to its client departments and outside customers.
Network Services
Information Systems maintain a metropolitan area network which interconnects City departments and buildings throughout Westerville. This network provides support to all City departments and Westerville area businesses. Our Network Services manage and maintain servers and storage devices Network Services also provides the means to host applications and data used by departments to support internal and external City services. Systems and data are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Application Support
I.S. provides support to all departmental and enterprise applications. Centralized management with automated deployment methods provide efficient and effective application and information management for departments. Giving those departments the freedom to focus on their job; service to the public.
Consulting Services
City employees rely on Information Systems for expertise to determine new ways to meet their needs through technology. Information Systems keeps abreast of the rapidly changing technology market and recommends cost-effective solutions that integrate with existing systems and promote efficiency.
Desktop Support
Information Systems orders, installs, and maintains computers and peripherals for City employees for whom reliable access to technology is critical to executing their prescribed job functions. Computer equipment and software is audited and evaluated throughout the year, ensuring departments can maintain or improve their level of service provided to the public.
GIS
Information Systems provides support and expertise for the Geographic Information System (GIS). GIS is a collection of hardware, software, and geographic data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information (i.e. streets, signs, utilities, and addresses). This system supplies geographic information for capturing, managing, analyzing and reporting geographically referenced information. Information Systems is responsible for the administration, operation and maintenance of the City’s privately owned telephone systems at all City buildings. Information Systems also oversees telecommunication services provided by outside vendors to the City.
