The Westerville Youth Police Academy (WYPA) is an annual program developed for local students who have an interest in law enforcement. Participation requires students to be at least 14 years of age AND have completed the 8th grade. The Westerville Division of Police will be holding its 2021 academy from Monday, July 19 to Friday, July 23. The deadline to apply is June 30!

During this one-week course, students learn basic law enforcement principles, including:

  • Hiring Process
  • Officer Training
  • Uniform & Equipment
  • Careers in Criminal Justice
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • Building Searches
  • Traffic Stops
  • Demonstrations by our K-9 officer and DTU (Delaware Tactical Unit)
  • Paramilitary Drill
  • Drone Demonstration
  • Public Safety Cadet Program

Graduates may then apply to join the Public Safety Cadet Post #6709, a youth program conducted by the Westerville Division of Police. This pre-professional program offers extended hands on training in law enforcement, with an emphasis on community service.
